Lambie Brothers Battle Landscapes

The landscape surrounding our hometown of Battle, Sussex, is very important to us. It is a part of us that shapes who we are, and in this way these images form a tentative continuation of our self portrait project. We are very interested in the places that our friends live and visit and this series was originally conceived in response to a collection of images sent to us from Myojo in Japan. The photos from Japan were unsensationalised and personal and we have adopted a similar approach.

Informed by both Chinese brush painting and Japanese wood block prints, where colours are often kept to a minimum, we have photographed the landscape at times when nature presents itself almost in monochrome. This project is also influenced by the long and rich tradition of landscape art in Britain and this mixture is a typical example of our desire to draw upon multiple sources in our work.
